You can't deny that the Maverick is a cool looking truck. Especially in this Maverick ST rendering. With it being relatively the same size as the previous generations of the Ford Ranger and offering more horsepower and fuel economy, it's going to be a fun truck to drive. Will it revive the Mini Truckin craze?

If you’ve ever driven a Focus ST, you’d know that a Maverick ST would make for a fun little truck to drive.
As far as reviving the Mini Truckin scene... You never know what will happen and what will spark an interest, but this truck has the potential to do it. The only thing I’ll miss are the dancing beds.

One of the big influencers for the MiniTruck revolution was the comparatively low entrance price, so yes. I see it happening again.

Don't really care for that particular wheel/tire option in the OP, but with a set of 16 or 17 inch wheels and some tires with sidewalls it wouldn't be too bad for many people who just need a small open bed vehicle for carrying bulky items from the home center that wouldn't fit in their car or SUV, or at least without making a mess type scenario.

I don't really need a full size truck anymore and most times even the current mid-size trucks are more than I need...now this past Monday I could have used at least a 1/2 ton to haul a trailer load of gravel home, but my 87 Ranger managed to do it.

What I miss is just a basic compact 2 door work truck, and I think many others think the same. I don't need a 4 door just a longer bed to haul materials like sheet goods, and dimensional lumber. At least with my 87 long bed Ranger I can haul plywood and lumber with only a foot of it sticking out the back of the truck, with most of today's trucks you are leaving almost half the material sticking out the back due to the lack of a usable bed LOL.

I can see this Maverick being a great alternative to many crossover/SUV owners honestly....look at the number of Sport Tracs, Avalanches, and Subaru Bajas that were sold....many just need an open cargo area for bulky items or to haul a dirt bike or something of that nature and don't feel the need for a full size truck they may not have room to park, and would rather have the fuel economy and handling of a carlike pickup truck/crossover. I think maybe Ford is onto something bringing the Maverick out. I think I saw somewhere that Ford could possibly be bringing out a 2 door long bed Ranger next year or the year after, and if they do it quite possibly could be my next vehicle. I do have a 2008 Ford Explorer if I want/need to haul people but 99% of the time its just me in the vehicle so a regular cab is great. Would be cool if they'd offer a "Work Truck" package base model Ranger in that possible 2 door configuration with a 7 foot bed and maybe the manual transmission out of the Bronco being an option, just without the crawler gear of course...well ok maybe not, maybe they could bring the STX package to a new level, and make the STX Ranger a cool crawler offroader. Who knows what's going to happen though with everything going on in the world right now.

The towing capacity of the Maverick is on par with many small crossovers of pretty much not having the towing ability, but I think the payload capacity could be there for hauling duties for many customers. The current Ranger has been out for a few years now and I've yet to even get in one...I really want to but don't care to step foot on a dealership lot, and they most likely don't have any inventory anyways LOL.

Personally, the Maverick will seriously need to grow on me. I don’t find it attractive. It reminds me of the later model Ridgelines, which haven’t grown on me yet and I don’t think ever will.

Just curious as to why you joined the forum if you dislike it that much ?

For the longest time the first gen Honda CR-Vs met my needs just fine. Until it no longer had enough power and I needed a vehicle with an automatic for a back up vehicle. The other driver in the house is no longer able to reliably operate a manual. So the CR-V had to go.

As long as they keep the FX4 and all the other "off road packages away from this little truck,

Too late, you can already order it with the FX4 package. You get hd radiator and cooling fan, trailer hitch receiver and 4 pin wiring, skid plates, the FX4 label of course, unique wheels and A/T tires, extra drive modes and hill descent control in the package.

Yeah, I know. I know they make a killing off of the off road stuff, it just seems redundant to build a small urban commuter to then go and make it a Off-roader. Give me an ST package please.

At least they give you something with the package. I wouldn’t necessarily call it really off road oriented but it does harden up the truck to do more work.

This pic of an Expedition ST gives me hope there will be a Maverick ST in our future.

I really feel like there's going to be a performance version of this truck.

I was talking to a car guy Thursday and when he found out I've been in to Ford Rangers, he started telling me that he had one, and then started talking about how he missed mini truckin. I asked him if he had seen or heard about the Maverick. He had not. I then showed him some pics from this site and he was instantly excited about it.

I think there are a lot of people that haven't heard about the Maverick, and a lot of people that would like to see the return of mini truckin.

It took me all of 5 minutes to convince a guy at work to buy one. He wants a truck, he doesn’t have $50k+ for a new full size, but he can easily afford about $25k for a Maverick.

Performance version? So the turbo charged 4 cylinder plus a supercharger? LOL. 5 squirrel power instead of 3?

I wonder though what exactly they would do for a performance version? Wonder if the 2.7L V6 would fit in it? Would be interesting to see what they come up....well then the DIYer garage crowd will somehow manage to put a 5L Coyote V8 in it HAHA!!!

I would make it AWD with that 300HP tune @Jim Oaks mentioned in another post. Lowered 2" front 3" back and put some sticky 18"-19" rubbers on the ground. Maybe a ground effects/wide body kit or some type of air diffuser with only two drive modes in the transmission: Normal and Sport
