This beautiful 2022 Ford Maverick is the creation of Jeremy Bumpus of The Hot Rod Shop in Corinth, Mississippi. Jeremy isn’t some mini truck enthusiast that built a truck in his garage. He is a full on ground up customizer that builds some amazing award-winning vehicles with the help of his shop crew. You’ve probably seen Jeremy on Motortrend TV’s “CarFix” or on “Truck Tech” on PowerNation TV.
Jeremy had always wanted to take a brand-new truck and build a custom, so when he got wind that Ford was coming out with the Maverick, he worked with Ford and his local dealership to order one in Velocity Blue. The plan would be to build a 90’s style mini truck.
To lower the truck, Jeremy contacted Bryan at Cool Cars Engineering and ordered 8-1/2-inch valves, 1/2-inch line, 16 gallons of air, and four Viair 480 compressors. They managed to get it all mounted and hid under the Mavericks bed. Since it was front-wheel drive, the rear was pretty simple. They removed the coils and built a couple of cups in their place, then mounted Slam Specialties SS6 airbags. For the front, Universal Air designed an air strut.
Going with a retro theme, Jeremy got a pair of 18-inch Billet Specialties GS69s for the front and a pair of 20-inch GS69s for the rear. The wheels are wrapped in Continental ExtremeContact tires.
For the paint, Jeremy and good friend Bob sanded down the truck and started with a purple fade at the bottom and working in different shades of blue. Then they started laying down tape for the graphics. Jeremy then spent the next two weeks airbrushing all of the amazing graphics you see with BASF custom mixed paint.
Jeremy added Oracle Lighting to the headlights as well as light strips running along the bottom of the truck
On the inside, Jeremy ordered blue and white leather from Apex Leather and reupholstered the seats If you didn’t notice in the photos, he eliminated the head rests.
A 1990’s styled mini truck should have a killer sound system, so Jeremy worked with the guys at The Outlaw Garage in Columbia, Tennessee and came up with six MTX S65 series 12s and three Jackhammer 1500w amps to run the subs. They ended up running eight MTX coaxials in the doors with two more amps to power those. Everything runs off of the Ford head unit. They installed four Odyssey batteries to power the 5000-watt system.
But wait, there’s more. After the initial build Jeremy added a camper shell and the Outlaw Garage added eight MTX 15-inch subwoofers, six amps and four Odyssey batteries pushing 7,000 plus watts!
The 2.0L EcoBoost received a new tune and a Magnafow exhaust.
