Will we get purists that insist the Maverick isn't a "truck"

It looks like a pickup truck, so IS a pickup "truck"

No part of it looks like a car
Rancheros, el caminos, ect.............all looked like cars with back seats and trunk removed and replaced by a bed

I've heard them all before:
"Gotta Diesel?" no "Not a truck"
"8 foot bed?" no "Not a truck"
"Dually?" no "Not a truck"

Some just can't fathom that other trucks/pickups can do what their owners need them to.

I don't remember too many people caring much when the Chevy Luv and the VW truck were around. People who call people out on "not having a real truck" need to feel superior I guess. There for the longest time, if you had a Ranger or an S-10, you would hear the same thing. When the gas prices started spiking, the comments went away.

EDIT: If they got too persistent, I would ask them if they were going to start paying my bills and buy me one. That usually shut them up.

I have a ‘79 F350 Supercab I’m restoring. My grandfather bought it brand new. When it’s done I guarantee that it will not do “truck things” ever. It will not have a trailer hitch. It will not carry 8’ pieces of plywood. But there will be plenty of people who will consider a “real truck”... What do they know?

For me, It's a Truck. Built to do truck stuff. Most Suv's are just trucks with a covered cargo area's, So this is the opposite. It's based on an SUV but has an open cargo area.

I think it's both... in fact that was the appeal to my wife and the reason she wants it.

She actually prefers a car but for what she does for work... the truck bed fits the need when she has to haul stuff.

Definitely looks like a truck to me. I'm glad they didn't make it look like a Fusion or something with a bed.

It does look like a truck... by todays standards.

I'm in the minority perhaps... or maybe I'm reminiscing a bit... but most just have to many doors.

I think they need less doors and more pickup.

Yes, some people buy a "Truck" to haul stuff, large stuff, so need a 6ft, 7ft, or even 8ft bed

But some need to haul people and maybe dirty stuff so a smaller bed is fine vs dirtying up rear of an SUV

The Chevy Luv and Jeep Comanche broke that barrier a long time ago and people called them trucks then. Those, along with the VW Truck paved the way and died off for some reason.

I just walked around a Subaru Baja. It had nothing like it at the time to compete with, but was priced over the outback that it was based off of, so it didn't sale. It would be a very stiff competitor for the Maverick and Santa Cruz and I wouldn't be surprised if all the other companies start releasing similar "crucks" in the future.

They priced the model out existence. If it had been on par with the Outbacks or cheaper, it might have had a chance. I considered one in passing until I saw the price and there was the potential issues with the engine.
